Calgary has an amazing network of trails and pathways throughout the city.  Tail on the Trails takes the skills that you learned in Good Dogs Have More Fun into the great outdoors so that you can take advantage of all that Calgary has to offer, with your dog. This is a challenging class that works on recall, loose leash walking and appropriate use of city pathways, sidewalks and parks as well as focus and attention from your dog in the presence of bikes, inline skaters and skateboarders.

This course has 4 classes and takes place at various throughout the City of Calgary.

 Polite Puppies  -  Cost: $195.00 (Includes GST)


Raising a healthy happy puppy can be a challenge.  Polite Puppies is designed to give you and your family the skills necessary to set your puppy up for success and provide a strong foundation for a lifetime of happiness with your new canine family member. 


Puppy classes are designed for puppies 8 – 20 weeks of age, having had their second set of shots or with vet approval, their first set of shots. Your puppy must start classes by no later than 14 weeks old so that they will graduate by 20 weeks of age. Please register early as classes fill very quickly. The main focus is on appropriate socialization as well as building a positive relationship with your dog. Work with your pup will be both on and off leash and we look at the foundation skills for focus, attention, canine manners, the recall as well as potty training, mouthing, chewing, play and puppies with children which includes DogGoneSafe’s Be a Tree Bite Prevention Program. This class runs for one hour every week for 6 consecutive weeks.

Polite Puppies is on a rolling admission, therefore you may join any week as long as there is space available and continue for a total of 6 consecutive weeks. Upon receiving your online registration you will be contacted with your start date.  We have two sessions running – Saturdays at 10:00am and Thursdays at 6:30pm.  Once you start your session you must do all of your classes on the same week day, either Saturday or Thursday.  Your puppy will graduate on the 6th Thursday or Saturday from your start date.  This class has 2 professional trainers available to assist you which ensure lots of one on one attention and a safe environment for learning.  Please note the next available start dates are Thursday, September 21st and Saturday September 30th.  Please state your preferred start date on your registration form.

 We will be closed on September 2 for the long weekend and September 16th for a staff training session.


Please note as much as we would like to we cannot provide opportunity for makeup classes if you miss one. We schedule new students based on graduation dates for existing students so that we can keep the class size reasonable for the safety and enjoyment of everyone.

Reliable Recall - Cost $80.00 (includes GST)

 

Spring is on the horizon and with that summer and lots of outdoor time for all of us including the family dog.  So now is the time to get brushed up on those recall skills.  Having a dog that comes when called is not only necessary but could be critical if you need your dog to return to you in a hurry.  Don't wait, register now for the Reliable Recall class.

Canine Minds and Manners is a member of The Pet Professional Guild.  The PPG is a membership organization representing pet industry professionals who are committed to results based, science based force-free training and pet care.  Pet Professional Guild Members Understand Force-Free to mean: No Shock, No Pain, No Choke, No Fear, No Physical Force,  No Compulsion Based Methods are employed to train or care for a pet. We take our membership in this association very seriously and in doing so Canine Minds and Manners trainers are stewards of the science based, result based force-free message, philosophy and training practices.

We offer basic dog obedience training classes, puppy classes, fear and dog aggression cases and specialty classes in North West Calgary as well as in home private sessions.  We also offer outdoor classes in the spring, summer and fall in the Calgary area. Our classes are kept small, maximum 12 in puppy class, 6 in all other classes with two professional trainers in every class to maximize assistance, learning and class enjoyment in a controlled environment.

Vaccines - adult dogs must have up to date vaccines or titers. Pups must have had 2nd set of vaccines. We also recommend that you talk to your vet about preventive measures for fleas and lice which can be transferred between dogs.

Payment for class must be received at time of registration or your spot will not be confirmed.  A $50.00 admin fee will be retained for cancelled registrations. Accepted payment methods are:

​​​​ Reactive Rescue  -  Cost: $425.00 (Includes GST)


Does your dog lunge and bark at other dogs or strangers when he’s on leash? Does he have trouble coping in new environments? Are you afraid to take him on walks because you’re not sure what he might do? Is he fearful, aggressive or reactive? This class is designed for dogs who have fear reactivity and aggression issues. Understand the underlying causes of your dog’s behaviour and learn how to build confidence in both of you. Using positive training techniques and proper management, teach your dog appropriate behaviours so that you can both feel safe and confident in changing environments.

Duration is 6 weeks, each class is an hour and a half and is limited to 4 dogs. This is a very involved, highly sought-after course that provides you with 9 hours of training with Tina Sarantis, Certified Behaviour Consultant and Certified Professional Trainer, with years of experience in working with dog aggression, fear and anxiety, giving you the tools needed to cope, manage and prevent unpleasant outbursts from your dog and get your life back!

Our classes are far more than the average obedience training classes.  Our unique style and extensive knowledge in canine behaviour allows us to provide a class that is fun, challenging and will help you to build the relationship with your dog that you have always wanted.  You and your dog will practice skills in both indoor and outdoor settings (weather and daylight permitting) so that you feel confident that you can bring your well behaved dog anywhere. While this class is a tremendous way to polish up on skills learned in puppy classes and help you to work successfully through canine adolescence, it is also perfect for newly adopted dogs or for those who want to brush up on their skills with their long time canine companion. This class runs one hour every week for 6 consecutive weeks.


This class is for dogs who are comfortable being with other dogs and people. If your dog  barks and lunges at the sight or sounds of other dogs or people please register for Reactive Rescue (see below).
